Scrappy the crochet Sloth is a fluffy amigurumi with the most colorful fur you’ve ever seen (or snuggled!). And to add to this cool crochet pattern, it is done completely using scrap yarn! Yep, Scrappy is a stash busting amigurumi.

Oh, how I love scrap busting!

After making so many stuffed animals, my stash starts to become nothing more than a collection of 10-15 yard strands in a myriad of colors, none of which are long enough to do anything other than add detail.

But with the help of my “Frankenskeins,” the balls of scraps I now make using the Magic Knot to tie them all together, I can create funky, colorful critters like Scrappy here, or the Worry Pet!

Scrappy the Sloth is made up almost entirely of scrap yarn. His claws and face are the only parts that call for a “specific color.” However, I give you permission to take liberties with that too, if you wish.

His fur is done completely using the loop stitch.

(Have I mentioned before it’s my favorite stitch for fur?)

The loop stitch is my FAVORITE stitch for fur!

And this particular pattern is really cool because he looks equally awesome with the loops left loopy, cut into strands, or cut and then brushed into a fluff!

  • Press the opening of the legs flat, parallel to the claws. Sewing through both layers of the leg, sew legs to either side of the body, directly across from each other, between Rounds 18 and 31. Bottom of legs should be flush with bottom of the body when set on flat surface.
  • (Optional) When completely assembled, snip the loops on all the loop stitches. Cut out any knots that won’t brush out.
  • (Optional) Using hairbrush, brush yarn firmly in a downward direction to fluff and blend fur.

Weave in all attachment ends when parts are positioned as desired.

  1. I’m confused on how to start the arms. I’m not understanding how to connect all the claws properly. Please help!

    1. Basically, you will make 3 toes and use the working yarn of the last toe to attach them all together, then continue the arm with the scrap ball. If you are still struggling, the Premium Pattern has a few illustrations that would be helpful as well.

  2. This pattern is cute since there is 2 sloths I chose Scrappy because he is cute!!!!! Also he is fluffy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and Soft!!

    1. Of course I will help! You will be repeating rounds 14 and 15 over and over until you get to round 31. So Rnd 16: repeat Rnd 14, Rnd 17: repeat rnd 15, Rnd 18: repeat rnd 14, Rnd 19: repeat rnd 15…etc. until you get to round 31.
