4 Daily Stretches for Crocheters

Stretches for crocheters are a vital start to your day. You need to take care of your hands as an artist; they are your tools, and broken tools don’t do their jobs.

There are a million stretches on the internet, but I have found that too many stretches can put you behind and actually make you feel more stiff or sore, so hunting through cyberspace for a collection of them can be more detrimental than good.

Instead, here are four daily stretches for crocheters to start your day. Don’t overdo it, and take it slowly.

Take a few minutes when you sit down in the morning, say, when your coffee is cooling off, to do a few quick stretches of your wrists, arms, and neck.

Stretches for Crocheters

Hand Warm-Up

Put your arms straight up in the air and close your fists. Then open and close them 20 times. This gets the blood flowing to your hands and helps prevent stiffness.

 Stretch Each Finger

With your palm open, gently pull backward on each finger and hold for 10 seconds. Do this with your thumb as well.

Neck and Upper Back Stretch

Put your right arm behind your back, reach behind with your left, and hold your wrist. Gently drop your left ear to your shoulder until you feel a stretch in your neck. Hold for 10 seconds. Tilt forward slightly until you feel the stretch in your upper back. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat on the other side.

Praying Wrists

Stretches for Crocheters

Above your head, press your palms together like you are praying. Bring them down in front of your body and slowly bring them down to the level of your belly button until you feel the stretch in your wrists. Hold for 10 seconds.

These things may seem simple, but just these few are a great way to get started every morning.

So now that your coffee is cool, go get to work!

  1. Merci Cathy c’est super, chez moi les poignets et mains ne crient pas trop, c’est surtout le cou qui grince, on dirait qu’il y a du sable dans les roulements. Exercices à faire pour bien garder la souplesse. Merci.

  2. This is awesome. I too golf, crochet and ball up my wrists while sleeping. Thank you for these stretches.

    1. It is encouraging to hear that others have difficulty with stiffness in the hands and wrists. I definitely will try these stretches. What an easy remedy! Thank you
