Ah, Fall. My favorite fashion season by far. Winter covers everything up in a giant coat, Summer’s goal is to wear as little as possible to stay cool – but Fall brings out adorable outfits, comfy boots, and soft leggings. So, I knew I wanted to add some creepy flair to my Fall wardrobe this year, and with my current obsession with spider webs, I decided a hat with a web on it was in order.

This hat is based off a hat I wear often. The original was a favorite of a dear friend of mine whom I lost to cancer last year. Lloyd used to tell me he loved it, and so I now call it my “Lloyd hat.” I think Lloyd would be proud of my new spooky version of his favorite of my hats.

The Spider Web Newsboy Hat pattern is worked from the center, with some added shaping, and a soft brim that is attached to the hat, so it always lays just right.

I originally listed this as a Premium Pattern only, but I decided a few hours later that I just want to see it out there, being made, and I want it to get some love before Halloween season is in full swing. So here it is: The Spider Web Newsboy Hat!

I am in LOVE with this hat! I’ve just been wearing it around while I run errands, even though it’s September. 🙂

The Spider Web Newsboy Hat is also available here as a Premium Pattern for only $2.50!

You can also get it through Etsy or Raverly.

Note: I would recommend getting the Premium Pattern for this one because it has a Graph for the webbing, and that is much easier to see when printed out.

The webbing is stitched on using the back stitch method of embroidery (See Special Stitches). For the spokes, start in the center and work straight lines out along the increases all the way to the edge of the hat, but not on the brim. Stop at Round 14 on the brim side.

The rows of webbing are done 3 rows apart, all the way around, angling up two rows at each spoke.

Graph is not exact because of decreases. It is meant to help you position your webbing. The left side of the graph is the brim, where there is no webbing.
